VCA complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. This means that on VCA’s contest site specifically directed to children under the age of 13, where VCA collects contest entrant personal information, VCA takes the following steps to ensure that parents are aware of and approve the information which is collected.
- The contest site has a clear and prominent link to this Privacy Policy.
- The contest site has the name and contact information of the VCA staff responsible for the contest and for collecting the information.
- On the contest site, parents will be informed of the kind of information that is collected (i.e. name, address, e-mail, hobbies), how such information is collected (such as directly from filling out a form, or cookies if tied to individually identifiable information), and how the information will be used.
- It is also VCA policy not to disclose to third parties personal information collected from contest entrants under the age of 13, except that publication of first names only with city/town and state for contest winners under the age of 13 may be posted only upon VCA’s receipt of parental or guardian consent.
VCA is committed to collecting only information that is necessary for children to participate in a particular contest where such information is requested. Information will never be shared with third parties without verifiable parental or guardian consent.
To participate in a VCA contest, any child under age 13 IS REQUIRED to provide the e-mail address of his or her parent or guardian. The disclosed parent or guardian will receive an e-mail containing the information set forth in this privacy policy, and alerting them to the child’s registration. In order for a child under 13 to register and participate in a contest, the parent or guardian MUST e-mail and/or fax permission for their child to participate.
Parents may review their child’s personal information, have their child’s personal information deleted at any time, and refuse to permit further collection or use of their child’s information by contacting VCA at 703-548-4560.
Although children under the age of 13 may be allowed to participate in VCA contests, if such an entrant wins, notification and prizes are sent to the parent or guardian identified in the initial registration process. Publication of first names of winners, along with their city/town and state for contest winners under 13 REQUIRE parental or guardian consent, which may be provided by e-mail or fax to VCA.
