Scott MacGuffie

Sunglass and Reader Division Chair

Originally from New York, Scott MacGuffie graduated from Green Mountain Valley School, a ski-racing academy, in Waitsfield, Vermont before attending Saint Lawrence University (SLU). While earning a BA with Honors in Economics from SLU, Scott competed on their NCAA Division 1 ski team.

Early on Scott worked for a software company in New York before moving to Sun Valley in order to pursue a career in the snow sports industry. He began his profession with Smith Optics as a buyer in 1992 when the company had only 23 employees. Today, there are over 300 employees worldwide that make up the Smith team.

Scott focused on goggle sourcing and later helped to develop the sunglass business with Smith's international manufacturing partners. In 2004, he was promoted to Vice President of Operations after holding various management roles in the Operations group. Most recently, Scott supported Smith's business venture into Military Eyewear and Snow Sport Helmets.

In his current role, Scott is responsible for all of Smith's Manufacturing, Distribution, Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality Control, and Asset management. His involvement with the Sunglass Association of America (SAA) started in 1997, and evolved through the merge with The Vision Council. He became a board member of SAA in 2005 and was recently voted chairman of The Vision Council's Sunglass and Reader Division (SRD). Scott lives with his wife and 2 kids in Sun Valley, Idaho, where Smith Optics is headquartered. He travels regularly to the Utah manufacturing and distribution center as well as internationally for Smith business.
