Industry Days Outstanding
Purpose and Methodology
Background:
The Days Outstanding Report (DSO) is an aggregated summary of the participants' average days outstanding on balances due to their respective companies. The aggregate report from this free member service allows companies the opportunity to benchmark their own collection efforts against that of the industry.
The Days Outstanding Report is free to participating member companies.
Use of Individual Company Data:
When a participant submits data to The Vision Council, their monthly domestic and all (foreign and U.S. accounts) days outstanding on the books calculations, the data is assigned a confidential code. This code indicates to The Vision Council staff that the data has been received for a particular month. After all data has been received from all program participants, the information is entered into an MS Excel spreadsheet by The Vision Council division (lenses and frames) without any identifying company information that would permit The Vision Council to identify which data was submitted by any particular company. Summary tabulations (minimum, average, median, maximum and standard deviation) are then conducted for each division and the results are depicted in tables and graphical form for each calendar month. The results are sent via email to key member contacts of only the companies that participate in the program. Summary information is never released to any companies that do not participate in the program.
